Wedding Weekend Recap

by Megan on August 30, 2009

After 5+ years of dating and only a mere 3 months of being engaged, Danny and I went and got ourselves married on Friday morning.  Everything worked out perfectly.  We had decided about 3 weeks ago to change our ceremony from a 6:30pm start time to a 9AM start.  It was a good thing because the weather was perfect on Friday morning, but, about noon the bottom fell out and it poured rain the rest of the day.

The ceremony itself was very small, which was exactly what I wanted.  We were surrounded by only our immediate family and a few token extra family members.  The service was short and efficient.  I had written most of it myself and it fit us perfectly.  In true Megan fashion, I did manage to step in a fire ant pile right after the ceremony – which was totally awesome and now my small toe is the size of my big toe.

After we finished up walking around and taking pictures, Danny and I hopped into the car and headed back to my parents house.  The drive from Fort Fisher back into Wilmington takes about 20 minutes and I spent most of the time amusing myself by taking pictures of myself in my spiffy sunglasses that I bought for the special occasion.

I also modeled the latest in wedding footwear – the red Adidas sneaker look (there will be more on this later when I get the “official” photos from our photographers).

I am wearing my wedding dress again when we have our party in November and needed to do a quick wardrobe change before we headed downtown to the Pilot House for lunch.  I figured if I didn’t change out of my wedding dress, I would most definitely spill something all over it and not be able to wear it again.  While there my dad asked me to go upstairs to the office and do some work – I, of course, made Danny follow me with the camera because the absurdity of being asked to work on my wedding day was worthy of a photo op.

After a lunch with our families at the Pilot House we headed back to the condo for awhile to relax.  I wasn’t able to fall asleep – but, Danny had no problems (as per usual).

We stayed at the Hilton downtown that night decided that a nice way to celebrate would be with a fondue dinner at The Little Dipper.  Our wedding day could actually be called the day of gluttony as we ate and drank our way through downtown.

It turns out that if when they ask you at The Little Dipper if you are celebrating a special occasion and you respond with something along the lines of, “Well, actually, yes we got married today” they will give you some “free gifts”.  Our free gift was a couple of glasses of champagne.  I drank all of my glass and half of Danny’s.  It went very well with my chocolate dipped marshmellows (little slices of heaven on a plate).

After dinner we headed down to the Reel Cafe to hang out with some of our friends who were awesome enough to brave the nasty weather to come meet us for some celebratory drinks.

I am a huge, huge klutz and totally knocked half of my beer over and onto Carla.  The sad thing is that this is something that would have happened even had I not been drinking.  Either way, I felt horrible about it.

Continuing with the whole gluttony theme, the next morning (per my special request) we headed down to the Dixie Grill so that I could get some sweet potato pancakes for breakfast.  I had only been dreaming having these again FOREVER.

(Danny just reminded me that we also hit up his favorite, K38 for dinner on Saturday night – but, I forgot my camera.  Just imagine Danny sitting in front of a basket of chips and salsa with a Quesadilla.)

Saturday evening we managed to fit in another one of our favorite activities – going to see live music.  Griffin House was playing a show in town and since we are both fans of his, we decided to go see him play.

After the show, I decided to buy his newest CD.  There is a song on it that might possible be considered for a special dance at our party in November.  As we were at the merch booth he happened to walk by and so we stopped him for a chat.  He had mentioned during the show that he had gotten married recently, so, Danny told him we were out celebrating our marriage which happened the day before.

We left the show after Griffin House’s set.  No offense to the band Needtobreath, i’m sure you guys sound like a lot of other bands that get played on the CW network, but, we were hungry and wanted to go home and chill out with our dog.

The Sunday after our wedding consisted of the very romantic task of cleaning our condo.  No photos were taken of this event, but, I can attest to the fact that it did happen and that it totally sucked.  Later in the evening we headed over to our friend Lori’s house for pizza and to discuss plans for a road trip we are all taking next weekend.  She surprised us with a cookie cake (Danny’s favorite).

(Note – Photo taken with Danny’s iPhone – very impressed with the quality.  Even more jealous of his stupid phone now.)

Sadly, tomorrow we have to go back to work and get back to the daily grind.  We will now start to move into warp mode with the party planning for the soiree in November.  We do not go on our honeymoon until November 14th.  Hopefully time will pass pretty quickly between now and then.  Now that the wedding thing is over with, I can honestly say that things really don’t feel all that different to me than they did last week.  But, I guess this being legal thing is pretty cool.
