Low-Key Birthday

by Megan on April 25, 2010

There was a time when I would have been totally stoked about my birthday falling on a Saturday.  It would have meant going downtown and raising hell being silly.  Now that I am old mature, it meant going out to dinner with some friends, having a couple of drinks and coming home to share the birthday dessert my mom had prepared.  Still a good time – and I did wake up with a splitting headache this morning, so, maybe things have not changed all that much after all.

Rewinding back to Friday night – we had plans to head over to my parents house for an early birthday dinner.  I decided the best way to be proactive about all of the calories I would be consuming at dinner was to go for a run after work.  I did not really take into consideration the heat/humidity and I managed to run about a mile and a half before admitting defeat and trudging home.  I suppose that I am going to have to formulate some new plan for working out that does not involve planning runs immediately after work.

Danny also gave me my birthday present early.  He got me a Kindle – which I was not expecting AT ALL.

This will come in handy as I have an out of town trip planned for work this  week.  And no more loading down my luggage with ton of books when we travel.  Sweet!

The thing that I was most excited about for my actual birthday was getting up early and going downtown to the Farmer’s Market.  I actually buy most of my produce (during the summer) at a produce market – but, I go to the downtown Farmer’s Market for one reason only:

Angela’s Pickled Pepper Foods.  This stuff is the B-O-M-B.  I was first introduced to this when I was helping do a fund raising drive at WHQR and Angela stopped by for a guest spot and brought some of her delicious food.  I never thought that I would be into pickled okra – but, I am addicte d. I also love her pickled squash and peppers.  I happily dug into my new treats once I got home.  Happy Birthday to Me!

Danny made reservations for us to get fondue next weekend (my “real” birthday dinner).  Apparently next week is Wilmington Restaurant Week and they are having a $25/person special at The Little Dipper.  I am all about getting my fondue fix in while it is on special!

And now I am off to fix dinner.  There are some delicious smells coming from the crockpot in the kitchen and I am getting hungry!
