I want to be on an Island

IMG_2017 I have the worst case of Spring Fever ever.  I have been having trouble focusing at work (some of that has to do with my wrist condition) and I have noticed myself going to Flickr and looking at all kinds of pictures of far off tropical places like the Bahamas, St. John, etc.  And don’t even get me started on Hawaii – ever since I started kicking around the idea of going there for a fall vacation, I have been obsessed.

Yes, I realize that it was only 5 months ago that we were in Antigua on our honeymoon – but it feels like so. much. longer.

I think a lot of this stems from the fact that I know that my busy season at work is looming.  That runs from pretty much late April-late August.  Which means that any kind of traditional “summer vacation” is forbidden.  In the past we have tried to plan one shorter early spring vacation and then a longer vacation sometime after my busy season ends (usually in November or December).  I really like to have something planned at all times – I know it sounds weird, but, having a spectacular vacation to look forward to really does make the dog days of summer at work more bearable.

Last year, we took our “short” vacation in May to Chicago.  We actually booked that trip in November of the previous year.  So, all winter and then through the first part of the year we had Chicago, Wrigley Field and Harry Caray’s restaurant to look forward to.

When we bought the house, we had kind of already made the decision to forgo our annual spring vacation to save money.  Then our friends decided to do a ski trip and we figured that would be a good way to get out of town for a few days.  Even though we had a great time hanging out with everyone – the fact that neither one of us really took to skiing was kind of a bummer.  Plus we had a freakishly cold winter in NC and we wound up cutting the trip short because Danny found out he had to go on an emergency work trip to California the day after we got back – it wasn’t exactly the most relaxing trip ever.

As much as I desperately want to go ahead and book something for October, I am going to be responsible and see what kind of bonus I get after the busy season ends.  Being an adult really sucks sometimes.
