When we were on the island last year, our favorite memories were of the day that we set sail on the Chocolat catamaran. A few weeks before we left, I contacted the captain’s wife, Jacquie, to see about booking a spot on the boat this trip. Luckily, we were able to work things out, and on Tuesday, we set sail for the day.
Due to the fact that I was still a little gun-shy about driving, we left our hotel super early and arrived to the Sandy Ground dinghy dock with plenty of time (almost 45 minutes) to spare.
After about fifteen minutes of absolutely sweltering on the beach at Sandy Ground, we wised up and headed to the end of the dock, where (thankfully) a nice little breeze kept us cool while we waited for Captain Rollins to come pick us up.
(There are definitely worse places to be stuck waiting on a ride.)
Captain Rollins arrived right on time to pick us up on his dinghy and off we sailed towards Prickly Pear.
Prickly Pear was nice and relaxing…until two huge boats from St. Maarten sailed over and brought a ton of (very loud/obnoxious) people ashore. After eating an awesome lunch, we headed back to the boat for our next stop – Sandy Island.
Ah, Sandy Island, how much do I love you? This was my favorite stop on the trip last year, and, I fell in love with it all over again this time.
Unlike Prickly Pear, this stop was nice and tranquil. Not many people were visiting, but those that were there were neither loud nor obnoxious. It was perfection. I laid in my beach chair soaking up the atmosphere until I could feel my skin starting to bake.
Just as I was getting ready to signal for Captain Rollins to come retrieve us with the dinghy, he pulled onto the shore to tell us it was time to leave.
One of my favorite things about travelling is getting to see new things and meet new people. But, sometimes you go places, meet people and see things that captivate you so much that you can’t help but want to repeat the experience again. I am so, so glad that we had the opportunity to spend more time onboard the Chocolat.
Honestly? I can’t think of a better way to spend a day.
