Closing a Door

by Megan on April 17, 2012

Last week we (finally) sold the house that Danny’s parents lived in (and that him and his sister grew up in).

Without going into all the details, this was long, drawn out process that involved tons court paperwork and a little luck.  As the executor of his parent’s estates, Danny has been stressed out trying to get all of the “I’s dotted and T’s crossed”.

I shudder to think about how many cumulative hours we have spent cleaning out this place.  My in-laws lived in the house for 20+ years and had accumulated A LOT of stuff.

From an emotional standpoint, I know that it was hard for Danny and his sister to sort through their parents belongings.  My in-laws had spent their entire lives providing for him and his sister – and here we were trying to figure out what to keep/donate/sell/recycle/throw away.

It is all over now and we couldn’t be happier to have this project behind us.  When Danny texted me last week to let me know that the closing was final – a huge wave of relief overtook me (so excited to finally get my lazy weekends back).

Danny and his sister have a lot of great memories from growing up in this house.  The people that bought it are a young family. They just had a baby and also have a son.

(This picture was taken Thanksgiving 2010, not long afterwards his mom started getting really sick)

I can’t think of anything that would make Danny’s parents happier than knowing that another family is moving into their home to create lifelong memories.
