I have totally neglected this blog. I am so, so bad at remembering to grab my camera when I leave the condo. Not to mention, I am still a little gun shy about taking random pictures in public. Oh, the irony – especially considering that I consider photography to be a hard core hobby of mine. It is crazy how I do not think twice about shooting when I have my D300 out and about – but, more times than not, I do not grab the dSLR because of my whole laziness issue. Ah well.
Last night Danny and I headed out to meet our realtor for round 2 of house hunting. I have to say – I am really not enjoying this activity nearly as much as I expected that I would. So far we have seen a total of 8 houses. Nothing has really blown me away just yet – and i’m really trying hard to keep an open mind as far as neighborhoods and what not go. But, it is really hard. Since both Danny and I are “native” Wilmingtonians, we both have ideas about the areas that we want to live in. When we first started going to open houses and online browsing last year, I was operating under the assumption that I had ALOT more equity in the condo. Obviously the market crashed and the amount we have for a downpayment (basically the sale of the condo) is about 1/3 of what I thought we would have. So, the neighborhoods that we were looking in are now (mostly) ruled out in terms of what we can afford. And, the houses in those neighborhoods that we can afford are just not what i’m willing to buy.
We have started casting a bit of a wider net and being a bit more flexible in terms of the areas that we are willing to move. Last night we went to a house in one such neighborhood – one that i’m not crazy about, but it is newer construction and has a lot of updated features. Danny, of course, loved the house. He walked around and kept looking in closets and proclaiming, “This is SOOOO BIG! Awesome!” I, on the other hand, liked the house – but, I still don’t like the neighborhood at all. The houses are too close together, all look the same, blah blah blah.
We have another appointment with the realtor on Saturday morning to see 4 more properties. My new rule is that we can only see 4 properties in one day – and that I have to be done by noon when the Duke/Kansas game kicks off.
