Today marks the two year anniversary of when we brought Gracie home from her foster mother’s house.
She pretty much hated us for the first few days that we had her at the condo. On the way home (we got her from a rescue group in Oak Island which is about an hour’s drive from us) she just whined and whined. And don’t even get me started on how the first month of crate training went. She is nothing if not strong willed and opinionated.
(This was taken her first night at the condo)
After she figured out that we were not evil people sent from hell to make her life miserable, she eventually warmed up to us.
Around the time she turned about 6 months old, she started to go through a rebellious phase (which she yet to grow out of).
This prompted us to enroll her in dog training classes – which even though she passed (without honors), really did not seem to do a whole lot of good at all.
After her graduation, she was offered a position in the family business. Her title? Director of Security. She takes her job very, very seriously …
Sometimes she is so sweet (mostly after a trip to Dogs at Play) that we actually consider getting another rescue dog for her to bond with.
…and other times she is so mischievous that we think we would be crazy to add another dog to the family.
(This was after our first experiment at leaving her home alone and not making her go in her crate – obviously it was a failed experiment)
All in all, I am so glad that I decided to surf on petfinder.com that afternoon two years ago while Danny was out working on a computer. As soon as I ran across her picture, I knew that it was inevitable that we would wind up adopting her. She is my spoiled rotten baby monkey and also my #1 homegirl.

Aw…my sweet Gracie!!! Gracie didn’t hate you to begin with…she was sizing you up to determine how much training you needed.
I really like to photo of her ‘holding’ up the chair so Grandpa Don doesn’t fall out.
Happy adopt-a-versary Gracie, Megan and Danny!
I love me some Gracie.
