Last week we packed up the (thankfully 4 wheel drive) SUV and headed up to Beech Mountain, NC with a bunch of our friends for a short vacation. It was supposed to be a ski trip, but, I kind of hesitate to use that term to describe Danny and I’s portion of the vacation as that – being that the total elapsed time that we spent with ski’s on our feet was probably somewhere between 1 – 1.5 hours.
While our friends went out for night snowboarding/skiing on the night that we arrived, we opted out of that fun. I figured that perhaps the best time to give the sport a go would be in daylight and after a lesson. So, we stayed in and made tacos..
…and watch the Duke/Ga. Tech basketball game.
The next day we gave it our best shot – but, it turns out that neither one of us really took to skiing at all. I was moderately better than Danny, but that was only because I was able to manage to stand with the ski’s on without drifting away from the lesson. I did, however, manage three fairly spectacular wipeouts (on the kiddie slope)!
It was bitterly cold the day that we booked our ski lesson. Our friends surmised that maybe the reason we sucked so bad was because the conditions were less than favorable. On the upside though, we did have a great time hanging out with our friends at the cute little mountain cabin that we were staying in.
I spent the rest of the day lounging around in the hot tub and drinking beer.
This might seriously be the best beer I have ever had. I got the bright idea to chill it down in the snow for about 5 minutes before jumping in the hot tub and it got the job done. Too bad Wilmington doesn’t have more ever have snow.
Unfortunately, we had to cut our vacation a day short because of a surprise business trip for Danny. Thankfully we have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, because otherwise, I do not think that we would have made it out of the neighborhood that our house was located on.
My friends were even nice enough to help clean the car off for us.
And now we are back to regularly scheduled programming. This week I have tickets to the Duke/Maryland basketball game and then next week it is back out of town for work. After that, I think that a few weeks of laying low might be in order.
