We have had some serious issues with keeping Gracie’s shedding under control this summer. Last summer she was still a puppy and hadn’t really grown into all of her fur just yet, but, this summer it has been out of control. We had kicked around the idea of shaving her, but, she has such a pretty coat that we kind of hated to do that. As we were watching tv this morning, a commercial for the Furminator came on (a product we had considered in the past but been to cheap to buy). We wanted to take Gracie on a field trip to the pet store anyhow, so, off we went to Petco to purchase the Furminator.
We were expecting it to work. But, I think that both Danny and myself were a bit taken aback at just how much fur it took off of her undercoat.
For comparison, this is a photo of the little monkey taken yesterday (pre-furmination) at the Farmer’s Market:
We headed over to my parents house to get started on the furmination (living in an upstairs condo isn’t so great for trying things like this). Unexpectedly, Danny decided to be in charge of the grooming – I had the very important task of passing out treats and petting Gracie. She actually did really well with the entire thing – she seemed to enjoy getting furminated.
It took us nearly an hour to get her all squared away (fully furminated). We were pretty impressed by the amount of hair that it took off. I think that Gracie would make a great spokespuppy and will be happy to entertain any offers for her employment.
Look at that pile of hair! Danny estimated that it had to be at least a pound.
A post-Furminator family portrait. At this point Danny and I were hot sweaty messes from hanging out in my parents garage for an hour – Gracie, on the other hand, had food hangover from all of the treats she received. We give this product 2 thumbs (4 paws) up!
