Looking back, 2009 was a pretty monumental year in the history of my life. Thinking back, the months of January-April really were fairly non-descript. I was really slack about updating my old blog account, so, the time is not accounted for – but, I would imagine that I spent a lot of time watching basketball and hanging out with Danny and Gracie.
In April I turned 31, which although not as big of a deal as turning 30 – I did find it a little depressing that I was into the first year of my 30s. I remember making several jokes about being ready to join AARP and reminded all of my friends still in their 20s (Danny included) that they still had, “their entire lives ahead of them.”
During the month of May, I was looking forward to my vacation to Chicago. After spending months anticipated it, this is what I had to say a few days before we were leaving (on my old blog):
We are leaving for Chicago for a short vacation tomorrow, and, it seems that in order to take 3 days off, I need to work 4 extra days to make it up.
Speaking of Chicago, this trip that seemed like a GREAT idea back in November, is kind of turning into a dud. According to the weather channel, the forecast for the first few days we are up there is supposed to be in the mid 60’s and rainy. Not to mention that the Cubs have now lost 10 games in a row. Blah, I wish we had just planned a trip to the Bahamas or something instead. Oh well, I suppose it will be fun.
Looking back, this is kind of amusing because it turned out that it was a pretty big vacation because Danny decided to propose to me in front of Wrigley Field (my favorite place on earth).
Since I have never really wanted a traditional wedding – and, since I knew we wanted to buy a house, we decided to forgo having a “long” engagement and decided to have a small ceremony a few months later. Unfortunately, this meant planning the ceremony during my busiest season at work, and, that really stressed me out. It all worked out though because we managed to pull off what I thought was the perfect ceremony for the two of us.
Right before the wedding, we put my condo on the market and discovered just how bad the real estate market had crashed in the past few years. In the end, my awesome parents decided to buy the condo as an investment property and rent it out until the market turns around. Best. Wedding. Present. Ever. We were able to start actively looking for a house and then eventually make an offer and go under contract.
After the wedding, the months of September-the beginning of November were totally consumed with planning our “monkey and moose soiree” to celebrate our wedding (as well as real estate stuff). See, even though I wanted a small wedding – I still wanted to party down with my friends. It was really important to us that we throw a party that was a reflection of us (not stuffy and hung up on formality). Even though it was a huge source of stress in my life for a few months, once November 6th arrived we had a blast and I am so glad that we decided to do the soiree after all.
The Monday after our soiree we closed on the house and then later that week (finally) went to Antigua for our long awaited honeymoon. Once back, the holidays were in full swing and it was time to roll up our sleeves and get to work on making the new house “ours”.
Now, here I am on the cusp of 2010 and it is hard to imagine how it could top 2009. I am really glad that I started this blog back in August to document all of the important things that happened this year. My goal moving forward is it be a little more consistent with documenting things because it is really great to be able to look back and see everything that went on this past year.
Bring it on 2010 – I am ready for you!
