Twas the Night Before Christmas

IMG_0002 ‘Tis the season!  We took Gracie to meet SantaPaws a few weeks ago – she was totally unimpressed and was definitely trying to figure out the best way to flee (Note Santa’s grip of death around her neck to keep her in place).  Thankfully, she did not bite SantaPaws – so, maybe he will still visit the monkey tonight.

Ever since we moved last weekend, my mom has been totally stressed out about Danny and I making the decision to not decorate for Christmas.  She really wanted to get us a tree – and I declined because with moving in a week before Christmas, it just seemed silly to go through the motions of decorating just to break everything down a few days later.  We finally got around to cleaning out our storage closet at the condo the other night and did haul our fake tree over to the new place where it is currently sitting in our living room (undecorated).

The other evening our friends Carla and Mark stopped by with a housewarming gift.

DSC_0653…our very own personal sized Christmas tree!  Upon further inspection we saw that it was only the most awesome Christmas tree EVER –

DSC_0654122409  ….a “12 shots of Christmas” tree!  They even added bonus bottles of Crown Royal at the bottom because they know that is my liquor of choice!  Thanks guys – we are actually using this as our “real” tree this year.  I put it on top of our (currently empty) DVD stand and then stacked our presents to each other underneath it.

Somehow, I am not sure that this is what my mom was envisioning when she was urging me to put a tree up, but, details.  Both of our families are from Wilmington and we spent tonight with Danny’s family and are heading over to my parents house tomorrow afternoon for present opening and dinner.  I think we are going to Danny’s sister’s house tomorrow morning to exchange gifts there and to see what the kids got.

Honestly, after working like crazy all week on the house (and still not even scratching the surface of what needs to be done) it has been really nice to take a day to just hang out, relax and enjoy everyone’s company.  Really that is what Christmas is all about – and this year I definitely have a lot to be thankful for!  A new husband, a new house, great friends and family and a  dog that drives me crazy but still manages to have me wrapped around her paw.

(As a side note – when did I become the type of person who takes my dog to get Christmas portraits?  Seriously?! I have totally become the kind of person that 5 years ago I would have mocked to no end.)

Merry Christmas!
