After being totally panicked that the horrible weather (wind and rain) we woke up around 6AM to overcast/cold weather but thankfully no rain. We made a quick run over to the house to drop off more clothes and then waited for the movers to show up around 8:15AM.
I have to say, hiring movers might have been the best decision we made during this entire process. Originally, we were only going to have them move the “heavy” stuff – but with the weather being so crappy the evening before, we did not have a chance to get most of the boxes loaded into the car and over to the new house. Once the movers got to work, I decided that I was pretty much going to let them handle everything. They were super efficient and things that would have taken Danny and I probably all day to move was done in a quarter of the amount of time.
The only bummer about the entire experience was that the foot board on our bed got damaged when they were putting it back together.
We decided not to file an insurance claim because:
- We opted for the cheap insurance and would have probably only gotten about $50 back.
- The damage could have easily happened had anyone been reassembling the bed and we were so thrilled with how great the movers were on everything else, we didn’t want to get them in trouble.
We had our friend Matt come over (again) and take a look and he said that it was fixable. He was over today working on it and said that by tomorrow it should be ready to put back on the bed.
Our house is now a disaster area. Pretty much everything is out of the condo and we are living at the new place. The house has this den that sits adjacent to the kitchen that has become the overflow room for the time being.
This picture does not even really do justice to the amount of stuff that we have crammed into this room. I am really trying hard to put my head down and get it sorted/cleaned and put away. 75% of the boxes are shower and wedding gifts that we received that I never even bothered to unpack because I knew that we would be moving soon. Hopefully with the holiday week, we will have time to finish getting everything in order and the house will start feeling more “homey” and less like a bomb went off.
On another note, we made a trip back to the condo tonight to grab a few leftover items. I officially made the decision on that trip that I was glad that we were going back to our new home and not staying at the condo anymore. With the car that drove by blaring music and the son of one of the people that lives there sitting on the common area stairs smoking – it was a pretty easy decision to make. I might be singing a different tune later, but, right now I am so, so glad to have a home that does not share walls/parking/etc with others.
Back to unpacking – more later.
