Moving Sucks

by Megan on December 17, 2009

Not that it is any big revelation, but, this whole packing up your life and moving thing totally sucks.  It does turn out, however, that having your personal trainer on speed dial when you have super heavy boxes to move is a really awesome thing.  Tom came over this evening and pretty much hauled every (super heavy) box that we had available for him to help us with.  Awesome!

Currently we are living like this:

We have hired movers to come on Saturday and get the heavy furniture (beds, dining room table, etc) but they are NOT cheap and we are trying to bust ass and get everything else out that we can manage ourselves to save some money.

I suppose eventually the new place will start to feel like home – hopefully once all of our worldly possessions are there.  But, right now it just feels like this huge time/energy/money suck.  It is going to be so weird staying there on Saturday evening – I have spent a good chunk of my adult life in this condo and while I have had issues with some things here, it has served me pretty well for the most part.

At any rate, in an effort to make the new house feel more like home I have compiled a list of all of the things that I WILL NOT miss about this condo:

  • My downstairs neighbors – they cook weird smelling food at all hours of the day and night.  Sometimes we wake up at 2am and it smells like we are sleeping at Indochine (our favorite Thai restaurant).  Plus the kids who live there are super obnoxious and do irritating things like throw basketballs against the building at 7am on Saturday mornings.
  • Shared parking – this is a huge deal when you have a dog that barks at any odd noise that she might hear.
  • Being unable to have a grill – we have depended solely on our friends/parents for cookouts over the years.  I cannot wait until spring/summer rolls around and we get a grill and host our first cookout!
  • Space/Stuff issues – Yes, the condo is a decent size; but we have ALOT of stuff between the two of us and it is going to be SO nice to have a few extra rooms to put things in.

I am sure I will think of a few other things, but those are the things that we have often lamented over the past couple of years at the condo.  And with that I am off to try and relax for a few quick minutes before I roll into bed.
