(Alternate titles for this post could be written as, “The Night I Decided to Act Like I Was in my 20s” or “Hangovers = Pain when you are old”)
A few weeks ago I was out to dinner with some friends. We started talking about Halloween events around town that we could do together. Someone brought up the Haunted Pub Crawl downtown, which I have actually wanted to do for a long time. A few emails later and a group of us were all booked up for the Saturday night tour.
The tour started out at Fat Tony’s, moved to Orton’s Pool Room (known in my hey-day as Bessie’s) and stopped at a few other local bars before ending up at The Blue Post, which is my absolute favorite downtown bar.
At the beginning of the tour they explicitly state that you are under absolutely no requirement to drink (duh). Needless to say, I should have heeded this advice instead of pounding drinks partaking in a few spirits at each place we visited.
Back in my hey-day, I could party with the best of them. But these days? My life is much more like a 70 year old retiree. My tolerance is not what it used to be in my 20s.
By the end of the evening I was all banged up on alcohol. It wasn’t a pretty sight and today was pretty rough. (Note to Self: If your husband decides he doesn’t want to finish his $7 drink, it is NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to drink it. Your dignity is more expensive than a ridiculously overpriced mixed beverage!)
On the upside, I had a good time hanging out with all of our friends. The tour was interesting and we visited a few places that I had never patronized before. I have lots of other photos (most of which I have absolutely no memory of taking) – but, I’m not about to post drunken pictures of my husband and friends all over the blog.
Some things are better left in the (supposedly) haunted ally at the Blue Post.
PS – Safety First! Shout out to my mom for dropping us off downtown before the tour started and to Iron Mark for giving us a lift home (and dealing with a truck full of drunken fools). Since I don’t plan to drink ever again for a long, long time, I will happily be your Designated Driver the next time we have a night on the town!
